Daschle's Out, Let's Get a Single-Payer Supporter In

Tom Daschle's decision to withdraw his candidacy for Health and Human Services secretary might leave you wondering if there's a suitable single-payer advocate for the position.
Well, Dr. Quentin Young, national coordinator of Physicians for a National Health Program, has called on President Barack Obama to nominate Dr. Marcia Angell or Dr. David Satcher to head HHS.
Angell is a senior lecturer at Harvard Medical School and former editor of the New England Journal of Medicine. Satcher is a former U.S. surgeon general and is director of Morehouse School of Medicine’s Center of Excellence on Health Disparities.
Introducing Healthcare-NOW!

We were thrilled to find out that single-payer health care got enough votes to become one of ten “Ideas for Change in America.” And even more thrilled that Change.org selected us help make this idea a reality. It’s an honor and a privilege.
Healthcare-NOW! is a national organization with hundreds of active volunteers organizing in nearly every state and growing. We believe health care is a human right and work to end our current health care system that leaves over a third of Americans uninsured or severely underinsured.
Health Care is a fundamental human right. No one should have sell their house to pay for their mother's cancer. No one should have to choose between food and medicine.
