My suggestion is that there be a 'cap' placed on the numbers - say 50,000 annually, in order to limit the impact on our population growth.  Another suggestion I have would be to eliminate the GED provision.
    best regards;

    Please visit CADENA's web site:
www.dreamactaz.org where you will find a DREAM Act advocacy kit.

Also we are collecting stories from DREAMers and their advocates. Visit the site often as we post more information periodically.

I started a small organization to support the DREAM Act and those who are the DREAMers.  I know that they struggle in daily life and they need support and hope that this Act will one day be passed.

This website is through MySpace, where many teens like myself gather daily to socialize.  This is a great area to get started and srpead the word about the wonderful Act provided by Senator Durbin from Illinois.  The site is not just run by me, but I accept any and all suggestions from links to put up for help of financial aid, to banners supporting the site, even to the music put on the page...uplifting and to the message.  Seems small, but this site is for everyone.  It is a small step for encouragement for these DREAMers, and those like me who want to help them all.

Please visit www.myspace.com/therealamericandreamm  for more info to see what we are all about.  Be sure to spread the word.

We work very closely with the NYCPIP (New York City Pro-Immigration Protest; linked on our site) and they are planning a protest soon.  We will join them as well, making it a protest on each side of the country.  We're hoping it will be a success.

    Thanks Laurita for your comments.
You are a real inspiration for teachers, specially in Maricopa County, were harrassment is suffered not only by the undocumented but by teachers.
A person answered Laurita. I will post it with only her first name no to further embarrassed her.

"There would be NO PROBLEM if they were here LEGALLY.  It is a slap in the face to all who have entered this country legally to just give illegal aliens a FREE PASS.  I applaud Sheriff Joe.  He is the only person in this country who CARES.

I am in this country because my GRANPARENTS cared enough about their children and grandchildren to enter this country legally.

I am so tired of reading comments stating that my parents did not know the consequences of over staying a visa.

Give me a BREAK.  They knew enough to apply for the visa.  They thought they could "GAME" the system and no one would ever catch up with them.

I'm sure these youngsters know they do NOT have legal status in this country they just want everyone to feel sorry for them.  If they are here illegally they are NOT Americans they are illegal aliens.  If they were born here of illegal aliens shame on the parents".

This is the typical ignorant comment we advocates confront over and over.  They cannot come Legally because there is no way for a poor family to ask entrance to the Country.  There are only visas (and limited) for professionals, managers and business people with lots of money to invest.
We need the labor the parents of the undocumented students provide but we ignore their pleas for legal entry.
Of course the grandparents of Carol came legally to this country.  Back then the laws were dramatically different.
Individuals could come illegally and later fix their situation because the laws permitted that back then.
But if you see Carol's profile she has not contributed to the Democratic causes, she does not promote the vision of Change she has not contributed donating or working for the Obama campaign so her opinion is irrelevant as irrelevant are now the extreme right of the Republican party, the neo-cons.

Laurita, you are an inspiration for all of us because you fight and put your well being on the line for your students.
    God bless you.

The DREAM Act has bipartisan support in both houses of Congress.  I don't think it should be too difficult to pass this.  It just requires some work and tenacity.  We need to keep bugging our Senators and Representatives that this needs to pass soon.

I have been following both the DREAM Act and the similar legislation that had been introduced in the House, the Student Adjustment Act, since they both were introduced about eight years ago.  It looked like either one might have become a reality, but then 9/11 happened, and everything regarding immigration legislation just shut down.  Other attempts to revive the DREAM Act have happened over the years, but it seems like it has always died.

I work for federal TRIO programs, and it continues to anger and frustrate me that I have come to know so many smart, capable, inspiring students whom I cannot enroll in my pre-college program, because they do not have documentation.
    This needs to stop now.
Let's keep the heat on Congress.  Pres. Obama can introduce this, but we need to bug Congress until they pass it.

I have a friend who is is a A college student and who also works a full time job. This guy wants to become a doctor to help the community. However, he cannot accomplish his dreams if the Dream Act is not passed. Americans are aware that there are not that many doctors in this country and that they have to hire foreigners doctors. Despite this, the goverment has not allowed my friend to become legal. Support the Dream act, so there can be more American Professionals.

I am a single mother, I am illegal, but for the past five years I have contribute to my community in every way possible . It has been very hard for me trying to be a full time mom and privider, but my kids are more than worth the effort. The three of them are A+ students and my oldest is a junior who wants to be a civil engineer. For us , it is the right moment to have the Dream Act approved , so my son can have access to higher education and in time return this wonderful country every penny that has been invested in him since we came here.  It is imperative that people know that we "alliens" are capable of thinking, we have brains, we can speak and write, we are hard working people and with a little help, we can give this country, "our country", a lot in return.
Please support the Dream Act, the future starts today. With a different attitude towards us illegals, The United States will be an even greater country.

There is much misinformation and lack of knowledge about the DREAM Act.

It is more about legitimacy than about education.  Without the DREAM Act, these students could complete countless degrees, and would still need the DREAM Act in order to be legitimate in this country.  It is their only path, right now.

These students are extremely well documented, not undocumented.  Documentation includes where they have lived, how long, all the schools they have attended, grades, attendance, vounteer work, etc.  They need in-state tuition in the states where they grew up.

Please, pass the DREAM Act Now.
