What do you think is the most effective way to turn this idea into real policy? Add your suggestions here for how you think we should run an advocacy campaign to advance the idea – including the overall strategy, messaging, targets, and tactics.

Approach this from the standpoint that people reading this forum already agree with you on the importance of the issue, and are asking "What can we do to help make this a reality?"

I understand that Bill Pleasants was the author of the original health freedom statement which was later modified to its current language, with Bill’s permission, by the Natural Solutions Foundation.(NSF). I understand that Bill's original version included reference to some health freedom organizations which was removed in the subsequent version.
Though I recognize and appreciate the significant role the Natural Solutions Foundation has played in getting the health freedom issue into the top ten, they do not own the health freedom issue.
I suggest that the health freedom statement be sent to ALL national health freedom organizations, asking them to rank the top two or three issues that need action and invite their comments on the kind of action they advise.
Such a survey would be valuable and could result in a press release that would further stimulate interest in health freedom.  I am sure comments will vary widely because there is a wide spread in views. That’s OK.  What’s not OK is for one organization to claim they speak for all health freedom advocates.
The list below includes all national organizations and prominent individual health freedom advocates that I am aware of (double-checked by googling):
Organizations: - American Association for Health Freedom - Health Freedom for All - Institute for Health freedom - Life Extension Foundation - National Health Federation (founded in 1955 and the only NGO officially allowed to participate in international Codex hearings.) - National Health Freedom Coalition - Natural Solutions Foundation - International Advocates for Health Freedom
Individuals with large e-mail, web, and/or radio presence: - Gary Null, Ph. D. - Joseph Mercola, D.O. - Mike Adams (“the Health Ranger”) - Ron Paul, M.D., member of Congress - Radio talk show hosts Deborah Ray and Joyce Riley

Health freedom begins with the respect of bodily integrity.

Today, I got an action alert from http://www.restoretherepublic.com - and the subject is - 2009 Health and Freedom Conference - March 13-16‏

The site in the e-mail to access is - http://2009conference.livefreenow.org/

If anyone will be going to this conference in Irvine CA., then you can make sure that everyone [ AND ALL ALTERNATIVE MEDIA SOURCES ] ; will have this petition. -
    http://healthcare.change.org/actions/view/prevent_codex_allimentarius

Now this is preaching to the choir; and I believe that it is still important for everyone to get this petition in the conference so that we can [ STRIKE AT THE ROOT ]. The conference can be a ground-zero / catalyst event ; for the petition.

Informing everyone that you know -- and don't know -- about this petition in blogs, independent health food stores, local farmers, ... ext.; is of course, important action to consider.

It was important to push the Health Freedom petition/idea into the top 10 for the Obama administration and; hopefully, world wide publicity for us.
The prevent CODEX petition is a means to engage all of Congress about the subject.  This could be the "one" that Henry D. Thoreau was referring to, when he said -- " There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil, to one who is striking at the root. "  We can at least jam it to the government. CODEX must be defeated, we cannot fail, there can be only one !

Organic foods can be grown right in our own communities, by the community; in our yards, in abandoned or un-utilized 'common' properties, on church acreage, etc. The government would fund and provide the seeds and tools to participating communities (requirements for organization would be necessary---teams/team captains/ property inclusion and management plans, etc.) Since many people are currently unemployed, this would be a way to utilize available labor, feed the community, and build community interdependence.  In valuing the assorted 'community gardens', neighbors would come to know and look out for each other and the various properties in the neighborhood.
Results: Available pesticide-free locally grown food; restoration of the canning process to preserve food for the winter; reduction in crime (a by-product of an interdependent citizenry); beautification---cleaning up trash and preparing land to grow crops.

Any healthcare plan must include provisions for improving mental health services especially as it relates to the initial assessment and diagnosis. Treatment which includes counseling, and medications should also be addressed. There should be a return to some form of admission for those who would benefit from inpatient treatment for longer than 72 hours as is often the case with substance abuse.

    Wellness, not illness...

It is sad to see people jaded by an enterprise system that rewards expensive unnatural solutions, and entangles good natural solutions with poor fad substitutes.

We have the solutions to wellness, if we could only get the right people to think clearly, and educate the people on what it truly means to be healthy...

With a current economic crisis and more and more people being layed off, the neccessity of reforming health care system and making it more affordable for working Americans becomes the top priority. It is as important as economic stimulus plans with billions of $$$ settling in banks and not moving anywhere. The discussions must start today and chages need to be made very soon.
It is medically proven that a person is especially susceptible to health problem during stresses. Loss of job is one of the strongest emotiomal stresses. Cobra and other similar temporary insurance coverages are expensive and do not solve the problem. Inability of a former working person to have affordable medical coverage for himself (herself) AND members of the family will, in the long run,  if someone can sit down and calculate it, turn out in billions and billions dollar losses for the economy in the long run. This issue is more important then the war in Iraq or Afghanistan, as nothing should be more important for the State and its Government then health of its own people. Yes, we all know that the resistantce of the current system and its lobbists will be enomous but if the new President and its Administation can START making this long awaited reform, it would be a great breakthrough

I agree wholeheartedly with Tina Minkowitz's note from 1/21: I'd just like to ask what is going to be done with these suggestions and how they can be worked with.  While I'm happy that health freedom was in the top ten ideas ....,  it's not clear to me where we are going. So, where are we going? I suggest that the originator of the statement (Bill Peasants, I believe) invite input from ALL the national and state health freedom groups to what the next steps should be.  We need to prioritize issues! Gerhard Bedding
