I agree lets ditch this patriot act and lets go back to basic, we can't live in fear. Under George bush for 8 yrs we lived in fear, now its time for hope and time to show the world we are not afraid of no attacks on our country. By the patriot act just shows how cowardly we as americans are we need not to be afraid and fight terrorists head on. Lets stop spying on americans and lets face these terrorists on a different level without invading privacy of americans.

This is a wonderful and informative website!  Thank you Ben Rattray for the congenial welcome.

President-elect Obama will take an OATH before God to protect, preserve and defend the Constitution of the United States.  This is not a choice.  This he must do.

If we intend to have any credibility whatsoever around the world and in our own country, then the Constitution, Bill of Rights and Civil Liberties must be upheld.  Criminal Justice must prevail.

The message heard around the world must be that the United States enforces the "Rule of Law," and believes that no one is above the law in this country - regardless of their title, power and wealth.

More than any monetary stimulus package - we must stimulate what it means to be American. The cause for the downward spiral in America is rooted in its recent subjection to abusive psychological rape. We must restore what makes america American. We must restore its Freedom. We must restore its Freedom to think and dream and be different and ingenous. We must restore its freedom to Care - Its freedom to care about what is right and Liberty and Justice for All. We must restore our civil liberties and freedom from abusive survellience and a psychology that strangles our hearts and minds. We must restore its root to freedom by restoring our constitution and repealing anti-american legislature like the Patriot Act.

Only when America is Free again can we restore the true America. Even though I am non-religious I still beleive in mercy and turning the other cheek; however, for America to heal and regain its inherent beauty we must also bring to justice those that abused her, violated her, and raped her of her essence. Those that swore to uphold her and protect her constitution but instead beguiled her into fear and self-destruction must be held accountable.

Only when we restimulate the heart and mind of America will we regain the lifeblood of American prominence.

I look forward to her unshackling.

Don't just restore the Constitution. Prosecute George W. Bush and his gang of thieves for their aggressions on Americans and people around the world. We also need to close the military bases the US has around the world, and bring the troops home from Iraq AND Afghanistan. We need to arrest Bush and his gang, end the American Empire and reestablish the American Republic. It's the least we can do for every race and creed. There is so much we must do but WE CAN DO IT! As a Catholic with profoundly progressive awareness I say YES WE CAN!

I would like to second (or fourth?) the motion to try the suspected parties in the Bush Administration and the telecommunications companies for their crimes against the Constitution. We let Nixon get away with his transgressions, and the message sent was that the powerful are above the law. Remind the American people that the Constitution exists to protect us from leaders that break the laws of the land. Nobody is above the law, especially not Presidents and CEOs. Our nation deserves to know that the law is on its side. Our nation deserves justice.

Retroactive immunity to telecom for compliance with illegal requests should be retroactively repealed. I can understand how a vote against immunity would have been framed as "preventing the soon-to-be-former pres to use all tools to find terrorists" You must explain that illegal wiretapping was initiated Feb 2001, and was not effective in preventing 9/11, that previous FISA regulations had not prevented legal wiretaps in the past, that with a wide-spread wiretap program in all communications, phone, internet, library, financial...all records, an incredible volume of records without oversight will definitely lead to abuse. Just one example were wiretaps on US military in Iraq talking to spouse at home.  What is to prevent wiretap information to be used as blackmail, extortion, trade secret theft, identity theft, insider trading...

I think Holder could turn out to be a pretty good AG. But, even if we succeed in repealing the (un)PATRIOT(ic) act, ending warrantless wiretapping, and restore the constitution, we still need to prosecute the Bush administration as well as all of the members of congress who voted for these illegal acts and war crimes.
