There is no way to talk a despot who has no respect for human rights and dignity into setting up order in his country. Everyone knows that Omar Bechir is a shame to mankind. Unfortunately, he is supported by the Arab league and most of poor african countries. Omar Bechir shoud be forced to give up the power by force (if necessary). Noriega is far better than him. The Us authorities should embargo the states which express him sympathy and support.

First Forget about the UN, Powerless, corrupt, anti-liberty for the individual on and on, and on.
We have an organization that is the best fit, and ideal for this operation NATO. It is a military organization of free and rational nations. We can expect a humane, and ETHICS driven
solution to the problem. Drive the "Rats" out, protect the population, assist the people in the creation of a new government. NGO's will be safe to help uplift the people, where they would be spiritually free to be an example for all of Africa. See my comment below, on Richard Kaziny's misguided suggestion about criminal court or police intervention.
This is genocide by an anti-human, nonspiritual Government, so the best solution is the alliance's Military arm. A'kin to the NATO naval forces protecting shipping from pirates along the east African coast. Talk softly and frugally, and carry a big stick. Semper Fi!

Did folks read the front page story in today's Los Angeles Times? The situation is dire in the Darfur camps now that the NGOs providing water, food and medical care have been kicked out by the GOS. We are talking days, hours perhaps, before people start dying in large numbers, which is exactly what the GOS wants. We must convey a massive sense of public outrage, especially focused on the Dept. of State and the UN. Organize a small group of friends and start making calls. First, the United States should join the International Criminal Court. We must put the rule of law above the rule of men.
Second, all nations who are members should contribute 5 percent of their military budget to an international police force overseen by the ICC to carry out its' judgements. This would solve the problem without making it look like an invasion and occupation by the U.S..

First of all, I want to state the obvious - GENOCIDE IS INHUMANE AND UNRIGHTEOUS. I believe that there is more than one way for America to go about ceasing the genocide. I'm only in 8th grade but I do have a little background information on the genocide. I suggest that families from Darfur can come to America and be housed by willing Americans. Also, we need to take the iniative and make genocide a world known issue and possibly even work with other nations to find a way to take action. Helping to stop the genocide would allow people around the world to see America as a caring, strong country that uses its powerful for humanitarian causes.

Initiate a method for the victims in Darfur to be able to defend themselves. In America, this would never take place as the ciitzens are armed.

The following are my ideas for real policies in order to help the genocide in Darfur:
1) We must increase media attention, whether this be in the form of movies, news broadcasts, reporters, and other sources.2) We must demonstrate that the individuals there, are valued. I have not heard of an official ambassador, nor diplomatic ties.
3) We could help sponsor infrastructure improvements. Much of the conflict occurs due to instability. If the government addressed this, individuals could educate the local populous on best practices and gain practical experience in the meantime. If this would be achieved through private citizens, corporate goodwill may aid our reputation globally and contribute to a better image abroad.
4) Finally, we can contact our government officials and let them know that this is a concern. Injustice to some, is injustice to all.

This is all anyone ever does in a situation of genocide , and brutal corruption. We have all seen or heard of it in our lifetime and say we must do something, and in the meantime, thousands are being slaughtered as we stand by in our comfortable homes and do absolutely nothing. If you think signing the petition is going to end this and your part is done, you are wrong. We all must stand up and tell our leaders enough is enough, and we must tell them now.
