I've seen no better argument for investigating and prosecuting those who have committed criminal acts than Ms. Holtzman's essay.

I always thought that liberals were all about peace and love? Look, I hate to burst your idealogical bubble here, but if Obama and the libs in Congress want to waste their time in prosecutions and hearings about Bush, they will quickly find that the American people have ZERO patience for this kind of nonsense. They will see negative results at the ballot box. It's time for the libs to stop feeding their hatred and get on with TRYING to run our country. I also believe that Obama, being a pretty smart guy, will try to distance himself from the far-left loons and just let nature take its course on many of these social issues. Bottom line: Liberals love to legislate morality and mandate "falling in line", but God is, and always will be, the standard for many Americans. My advice to the liberals is to simply lighten up and quit hating. Life's too short. Enjoy your victory and at least TRY to serve the American people without being so agenda-driven.

The US has always been a nation that has been governed by the rule of law.  As the theory goes, no one is above the law.  I expect the Obama administration to follow the evidence and hold anyone accountable for violations of our laws, whether those violations took place in the past, present or future.

America urgently needs a Special Prosecutor, Patrick Fitzgerald, to prosecute the War Crimes of the bush administration.
bush administration officials violated the Geneva conventions, the U.N. Charter, the U.N. Declaration on Universal Human Rights, the Nuremberg Principles, and violated many other International Treaties which the USA has previously signed and agreed to honor and abide by.
High Level American officials are clearly War Criminals and America urgently needs to have War Crimes Trials.

I believe appointing a special prosecutor to investigate the actions of the Bush Administration is very important.  The prosecutor should be independent and not an arm of the Obama administration or the Bush Administration; that way the Obama administration can govern as it needs to without having to keep track of the special prosecutor.

It is important that the United States sends a signal both to itself and to the rest of the world that executive branch actions which are of questionable legality will be investigated and evaluated.  If, as I suspect, laws have been broken, then the suitable authorities should seek conviction.

Build a law that prevent citizens in the future from lies that come from a president and his\her team.

Consider 9\11 as crime against humanity not against people in US and consider Bush work as acts of crime against humanity: what he did in Iraq, the full support to help Israel promote massacres in Gaza agains civilians, mostly children.

There are three separate avenues that need to be pursued.
    1) A congressional Investigation to discover just how extensive the damage to the Federal Government has been because of the Bush Administration decisions and actions.
2)Appointment of a Special Investigator to investigate and bring to trial in the Federal Courts those individuals who have most facilitated the violation of the laws of the land.
3)Begin a national discussion about Article II of The Constitution For The United States of America and the extent of Presidential Powers.  The Atlantic Monthy has an article that begins to address this.  http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200901/founders-mistake

I find it reassuring that the insightful comments posted above my Ms Weiss echo my own.

I, like many other Americans, have been forced to wade through a never-ending litany of lies over the stockpiles of WMD that were being prepared for use by Iraq.  Surveillance had been extensive and had yielded conclusive "intelligence."  They had them, and Saddam Hussein just might use them against more innocent Americans on their soil.  We needed to get them first, thereby keeping the war that would inevitably result over there.

But additional, considerably more truthful "intelligence" found no evidence of this at all.  These findings, shared by the then Secretary of State Colin Powell, were summarily dismissed and denied by the White House.  Mr Powell would soon be unceremoniously drummed out of the administration.

That that just didn't jive with the plans of W, so the intel needed to be rewritten to support the case for going to war.  With that now taken care of, these alarming details were urgently pushed through Congress (the only branch of US government with the authority to make such a declaration).  This detail was blatantly ignored by the White House (just one of the many times where this despot entirely ignored the Constitution, did away with its -- and OUR -- Bill of Rights, and war was then declared as the only way of not only avoiding further attacks but also as the only way to spread American-style democracy to the rest of the world. In other words, Chicken Little was basically declaring that the sky was falling, so immediate action was required.

With this, the world was promised that the fighting would be swift; few casualties would be incurred; and that the war would require no financial assistance by the American people as the oil reserves of Iraq which would now be commandeered by our troops would cover the costs of the invasion.

And if all that weren't enough, the same exact scare tactics would be brought back into play, as another $700 billion were demanded by the Treasury Department is order to ensure that the country's economy, already in a recession, would not fall into a state of all out depression.

Suddenly, Washington needs billions more from the American taxpayers to be injected into the economy.  In light of the urgency with which these funds were needed, no time for establishing any sort of oversight "was possible."  Now many questions regarding where and how this money has been spent cannot be answered.

So the resulting questions that I believe all Americans deserve to have answered are such:

What would happen to any other American whose greed and maniacal penchant for invading other sovereign nations with no proven risk of harming our country resulted in that country then being viewed as a mere bully on the world stage?

What penalty would be exacted from any other American on whose hands the blood of over 4000 US soldiers, and at least 90,000 Iraqis lay?

What would be the price to be paid by someone for essentially STEALING over $700 billion from his or her fellow citizens and then not being able to account for where they now are?

My best guess -- and I'm pretty damn sure it's a solid one -- would be that all suspects would be rounded up and brought in for questioning.  They would be required to explain just how and why such actions had been committed.

And with even a fraction of the evidence that has already been found about this administrations' players, they would be taken before a court, sentenced appropriately, and forced to pay for the resulting consequences.

It is beyond my ability to understand how if President Nixon was impeached for only a single crime, which involved not a single death, that any of these rogues would be allowed to ride off into the proverbial sunset, collecting undoubtedly substantial pensions, and not having to answer for anything.

If we, as a nation, are to have any chance of regaining even a fraction of the respect and trust we have enjoyed for centuries, lost to all these crimes against humanity made by an administration which refuses to acknowledge any wrong-doing at all, then the past 8 years will have been for naught.

The appointing of a Special Prosecutor who will force these criminals to provide answers on the world's stage.

The Bush Admistration must be held totally responsible for their actions here and around the world.  How can citizens be expected to take crime and punishment, justice, seriously if the highest officials in this country are not held responsible?
