I am excited about the progress we are making to treat all couples equally under the law regardless of their sexuality. However,I respect those who are against change that challenges their beliefs. If your church does not want to honor the marriage of a same sex couple that is your choice. Yet, all people deserve to be acknowledged and respected by our government, regardless of your decision to believe That your faith opposes it.

\ I like your post but I have to disagree with your point of view on civil unions. Whether the word marriage causes people to get upset or not, it doesn't matter. Anything else than marriage, even with the same rights and benefits, is not marriage, and is not equal, but separate and unequal. it is a separate institution created to allow people to hold on to their heterosexual privileged while subversively continuing to oppress LGBT people. There has been empirical evidence that shows that even when given all the same rights and benefits of marriage, civil unions, are still considered less than marriage, less of a commitment, and less human. Many violations have gone unchecked to "civil unioned" spouses, because of social acceptance of civil unions is that of something far below marriage. Also When you allow everyone to get a civil union but only allow heterosexual couple get married that is still segregation and must not stand.
