U.S. Energy Dept Offers $3.4 Billion in Smart Grid Grants

Published April 17, 2009 @ 12:44PM PT

Ayesha Rascoe of Reuters, reported today (April 17, 2009): "The U.S. Energy Department on Thursday launched the process to distribute more than $3 billion in grants for 'smart grid' technology to modernize electricity transmission. The program, authorized by the economic stimulus package passed by Congress earlier this year, will provide financial assistance from $500,000 to $20 million, matching up to 50 percent of approved project costs. 'By investing in updating the grid now, we will lower utility bills for American families and businesses, lessen our dependence on foreign oil and create good jobs that will drive our economic recovery -- a strong return on our investment,' Vice President Joe Biden said in a statement."

Oh for some sane, energetic ideas to get every house, every shopping mall, every big box store Solar collectors on their roof tops and wind generators in their back yards. That would surely start a whole new industry. Put people to work. But alas ingrained habits die hard especially when they are well healed and financing the seats of our governing bodies.Get rid of these Power facilities (I can't call them 'plants'). The energy grid is a must redo. Get the best and the brightest... that have vision and a heart... to turn on our lights and run our cars efficently...for all of our sakes and even more importantlyfor the sakes of those that are living in circumstances that is only a cut above stone age due to the fearful  actions of the purveyors of weapons of mass destruction. {(God forgive US!) I digress!} Let US quit spending the major part of our energy and resources on weapons and invest in our future. TURN THE LIGHTS ON

i second that motion. solar energy ... at least a 10x10 grid per house, 1 at a time.. spiral nexesis from the very center of the pentagon.. what a power hungry beast. lets do this!! lets get agressive even. did you know the power grid will PAY you for putting a solar grid system into the powerlines? look it it up! solar is NOT that expensive if u know what your doing.

  3. Most people in the US live alog coastal areas and big cities. Solar and wind power is useless almost everyone and can't provide enough energy for the current standard of living conditions. Solar and wind energy can olny provide enough energy for the US population to live in poverty conditions.

This can provide all the energy everyone needs and it's  cleaner and green than solar and wind turbine energy and can last millions of years:

This is quite a positive step ... however in some way a rather tricky one as many inventors, discoverers ans some how "private" scientists are using their ideas to raise funds for ... themselves.

Per example, the use of plasma technology to recycle waste recovering energy is an idea which works perfectly well on the blue print. However due to the electrode wearing it loses efficiency on medium to long term running.

I don't want to disclose names publicly but out of a list of some hundred less than five are reliable. Would a group of politicians be able to sort the few good ones from all others?
