Alternatives to General Motors

What is the alternative to the corporation?
This is a question we must consider if we want to organize a more democratic economy, and create a system of governance that responds to human persons, not corporate 'persons.'
One way to lessen the strength of the entire corporate sector is to put economic power into other more democratic forms of business organization.
Mike Ferner, of the Program on Corporations, Law, and Democracy, takes a look at the possibilities for doing that with General Motors. Read his piece, "We Don't Need the General Motors Corp." now up at CommonDreams.org.
And for another reason why we don't need General Motors, see my earlier post here.

Yes a corporation is just that. A company which employees people. It is NOT a people and have no voting rights.
No corporation should have any power to legislate or manipulate the Congress.
We PEOPLE can do that ourselves, thank you very much.

There is also another post here on ch.o which is a petition to President Obama and Congress:
Obama, listen to Michael Moore´s plan for GM!
http://globalwarming.change.org/actions/view/obama_listen_to_michael_moores_plan_for_gm?suggested=true
It is quite popular and if a bunch of you bloggers would come sign it too, it could start recruiting itself if it can make it to the first page of the "most popular" actions index in the global warming cause! because then more people would see it ... people who do not frequent the site as much as the core activists and bloggers here.
I think it is very important to let "our" gov know what we are aware of rather than merely discussing these things among ourselves.
I also recommend that possibly at least some of the posts/articles here would make EXCELLENT petitions to send to the people who are in positions to make decisions.
