Change.org is the fastest-growing platform for social change on the web, gaining hundreds of thousands of new members a month and pioneering a new model of distributed organizing that empowers anyone, anywhere to start, join, and win campaigns for social change.
Our belief is that building momentum for change globally means empowering citizen activists locally, and we provide the tools, support, and scale necessary for our members to win campaigns every day – from Seattle to South Africa. To help these citizen activists and our partners wage and win campaigns,
The Chief Organizing Director will be expected to lead, train, and mobilize a large staff of issue-based organizing teams across multiple causes.
The Chief Organizing Director will have two primary responsibilities:
- Management: This is first and foremost a management position. The Chief Organizing Director must excel at team-building and mentorship, as well as at supporting, motivating, and facilitating communication among a senior organizing team.
- Strategy: Change.org is pioneering a new model of hyper-local organizing, empowering people across the country and the world to organize their own local advocacy campaigns. The Chief Organizing Director will help shape the strategy of this ever-improving model – from overseeing the development of a scalable training program for grassroots organizers to crafting the messaging around our support for member-created campaigns.
Applicants should also have experience developing and executing effective advocacy campaigns, a willingness to take risks and innovate, and an excitement about working in an ambitious, fast-moving, and entrepreneurial environment. Our organizing team is high-impact, low-ego, and has a deep respect for our members. We expect you to be the same.
Candidates must have extensive experience in leadership/management roles in the political/nonprofit advocacy sector.
Ideal candidates will have served in one or more of the following positions or their equivalents: Campaign Manager for one or more top-tier federal elected campaigns, Field Director for a large organizing program, Senior Executive of a nonprofit or 527, Partner at a leading consulting firm, or Chief of Staff for a member of congress or senator.
While this is not a political role per se, we seek someone with a deep understanding of what it takes to win advocacy campaigns on the local, state, and national level.
Change.org is a profitable social venture with more than 70 employees located in San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and New York City, and we give preference to candidates in these cities. Compensation and benefits are very competitive.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, age, physical disability, or length of time spent unemployed.
