The Hemp and Cannabis Foundation

Mission

The Hemp & Cannabis Foundation is working to end adult marijuana prohibition, restore industrial hemp and help medical marijuana patients. Our goal is to educate people about the medicinal, social and industrial uses for cannabis in order to restore hemp cultivation, help medical marijuana patients and end adult cannabis prohibition.

Hemp may be the plant that started humans down the road toward civilization with the invention of agriculture itself. All archaeologists agree that cannabis was among the first crops purposely cultivated by human beings more than 6,000 years ago, and perhaps more than 12,000 years ago, and that hemp may well be the first "crop."

Hemp, marijuana or cannabis grows more rapidly than any other plant in temperate and cooler climates, and grows well in the tropics too. Hemp or cannabis produce more energy, oil, protein, fiber and medicine than any other plant.

Hemp or cannabis were made illegal based upon a racist misinformation campaign to protect and enrich the petro-chemical industries. We call this misinformation campaign "reefer madness," after the title of a 1937 film that purported to show how "a deadly new drug called marijuana" caused people to go insane and kill their family and friends.

While marijuana is prohibited, industrial hemp will be economically prohibitive due to the artificial regulatory burdens imposed by the prohibition of marijuana. When marijuana and cannabis are legally regulated, industrial hemp will return to its rightful place in our agricultural economy.

Restoring industrial hemp to its rightful place in agriculture today will return much control to our farmers, and away from the multinational corporations that dominate our political process and destroy our environment. These capital-intensive, non-sustainable, and environmentally destructive industries have usurped our economic resources and clear-cut huge tracts of the world's forests, given us massive oil spills, wars, toxic waste, massive worldwide pollution, global warming and the destruction of entire ecosystems.

Prohibiting cannabis has led to the exponential growth in prison population, with the USA now having the largest number of people, per capita, incarcerated in the history of the world. This has created a blackmarket that destroys lives and families while corrupting our police and courts.

Prohibiting the cultivation of this ancient plant, the most productive source of fiber, oil and protein on our planet, is evil. In its place we have industries that give us processes and products that have led to unprecedented ecological crisis and worldwide destruction of the biological heritage that we should bequeath to our children, grandchildren and future generations.

Restore hemp!

Programs

THCF has a variety of programs to educate and assist the community.

Perhaps most notably, THCF Medical Clinics has offices in 8 states and has helped over 50,000 patients obtain their state's permit for medical marijuana. Our physicians help qualified patients get a state permit to legally possess, use and grow medical marijuana. Our clinics help patients learn to cultivate cannabis and teach them about alternatives to smoking, such as vaporization and making cannabis foods, capsules and liquid extracts with oil, butter, alcohol and glycerine. THCF Medical Clinics are located in Oregon, Washington state, Hawaii, Colorado, California, Nevada and Michigan. Our clinics' toll-free phone number is 1-800-723-0188.

THCF has produced almost 500 episodes of our live weekly TV show, Cannabis Common Sense. Our show is on cable television in Oregon, Washington, California, Colorado and Michigan, and is available, now, on demand on our websites.

THCF publishes a periodical called Hemp News. Hemp News is the oldest online ezine, which began posting in 1991 on Usenet newsgroups, the predecessor of today's world-wide web.

THCF Museum has a diverse collection of cannabis and hemp artifacts and items. THCF has over a hundred antique medical cannabis containers, bottles and packaging, with multiple items from Eli Lilly, Parke Davis, Johnson & Johnson, Sharpe & Domme, to name some of the pharmaceutical companies still in existence today. THCF Museum has over 400 different books on marijuana and hemp, and many cannabis-related photos, paintings, videos and works of art.

THCF Medical Gardens has, with legal state permits, helped medical marijuana patients obtain medical marijuana, seeds and starter plants or cuttings to start their own garden. THCF Medical Gardens is proud to announce that we won the top 4 awards in Oregon NORML's 2008 Oregon Medical Cannabis Awards, a doubleblind barcoded judging of cannabis based on six criteria, potency, aroma, taste, smoothness, appearance and medicinal effect.

THCF also purchases advertising to educate the public and to tell the truth about hemp and cannabis.

History

The Hemp & Cannabis Foundation was founded by Douglas Paul Stanford in August 1999 as a 501c3 nonprofit organization. THCF has an affiliated political committee that was founded in 1990, CRRH or the Campaign for the Restoration and Regulation of Hemp. CRRH has developed a legislative model to legally regulate marijuana production and sales to adults called the Cannabis Tax Act.

THCF has helped 50,000 patients obtain their state's permit to legally possess, use and grow marijuana. THCF has produced 500 episodes of our TV program, Cannabis Common Sense. THCF's Hemp News is the oldest on-line ezine, since 1991.
