Harrisburg, PA, December 02, 2008: American Foundation for Children with AIDS (AFCA) has brought Arrive Marketing and Events, a Northern Michigan marketing and event planning company, on board to handle their 2009 “Climb Up So Kids Can Grow Up” events.
Climb Up So Kids Can Grow Up is a budding relationship between American Foundation for Children with AIDS and the outdoor recreation community. Climb Up So Kids Can Grow Up invites hikers, climbers, runners and cyclists from around the world to get outdoors, have fun and raise money for children affected by AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Arrive Marketing and Events will work with sponsors, vendors, participants, volunteers and the media to make sure the 2009 events are a success. Kendra Herington, owner of Arrive has set a personal goal to raise $175,000 for AFCA through the Climb Up events alone. This includes the main event, “Climb Up the World” which invites climbers from all over the world to participate and is scheduled for the 3rd weekend of September of 2009. “Climb Up Kilimanjaro” is an event where 12 brave outdoor enthusiasts will climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa to raise funds for this special cause. Also on the books is “Climb Up Charlotte”, an indoor climbing event on one day, followed by a gala the following day.
When Tanya Weaver, Executive Director for AFCA was asked why she decided to hire Arrive, she explains, “We worked with Kendra before she started Arrive Marketing and Events, as she had actually contacted us to get involved as a sponsor with the company that she was with at the time. When I needed to hire someone for the Climb Up events, I contacted her to see if she knew anyone who might be interested in working with us. It was so exciting to find out that she had moved to Northern Michigan and had started a company doing marketing and events! It was a perfect situation. We knew she was dedicated to the cause and great in her field. It all fell into place…it was meant to be.”

AFCA is a non-profit organization that helps HIV+ children and their guardians in sub-Saharan Africa who have no other access to aid. AFCA is an efficient and highly effective grass roots organization that acts as a conduit between the extreme needs of accredited partners and the vast resources of the western world. AFCA provides readily available, life-saving anti-retroviral medicine, medical equipment and supplies, nutritional supplements, and emergency supplies that are requested by their partners for the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS so that the afflicted, at-risk children can have hope to grow up free of the devastating effects of this disease. Currently, AFCA is working in Kenya, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
