- Political Orientation:
- Liberal
- Nonprofits and politicians I have worked or volunteered for:
- Guatemala Human Rights Commission, Pew Center For Civic Journalism, International Development Exchange, Global Exchange, Business for Social Responsibility, California Labor Federation
- If I were President, the first thing I would do is:
- Pull out of Iraq (we don't have enough troops on the ground, never did, and a draft is the last thing any of us want), close all tax loopholes for oil companies (and allocate 50% of the revenue for rebuilding Iraq), and then I'd reverse Bush's tax cuts for the richest of the rich and get this country out of the red and out of debt to China. I'd also end all free trade agreements and rebuild our manufacturing sector in the United States... then universal health care for all.
- If I had a million dollars to give away, I would:
- Build schools in the developing world to make sure impoverished children have a chance to become educated.
- About Me:
- I am the Nonprofit Community Manager for Change.org. I moved back to Springfield 3 years ago from San Francisco after living on both coasts and Latin America for 14 years. I get out of MO a lot to travel and visit friends on the left coast. Love my job!

Hi Heather,
My Name is Eric and I am a volunteer with Be The Change Inc.'s ServiceNation campaign (http://www.bethechangeinc.org/servicenation). I saw that you are an active member of Change.org and thought you would likely be interested in ServiceNation. We were just featured in this week's TIME magazine. We will be holding a major summit on September 11 and 12 with America's major businessmen, academics, social entreprenuers, and politicians (including McCain and likely Obama) to discuss the expansion of national service (AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, etc.). ServiceNation hopes that in just a few years it will be standard for Americans to volunteer for a year of service before or after college.
As we prepare for the Summit we are looking to get more people involved in the national service discussion and to show the presidential candidates how Americans feel about it.
How has volunteering affected your life? How do you want our next president to address national service?
I look forward to discussing national service with you further. Let me know what you think!
