Suicide Prevention Action Network Usa

1025 Vermont Ave Nw
Washington, DC 20005

SPAN USA was formed by Jerry & Elsie Weyrauch, who lost their 34 year-old daughter, Terri, to suicide in 1988. Their goal was to create a way for survivors of suicide (i.e. those who have lost someone to suicide) to transform their grief into positive action in order to prevent future tragedies. The organization is comprised of volunteer community and quilt organizers who work locally to raise awareness and deliver messages about the importance of suicide prevention to community leaders and policy makers. SPAN USA''s central office provides its network of organizers with relevant and important information regarding suicide prevention and mental illness. We maintain a website which provides information on legislation and other pertinent initiatives and provides numerous links to other resources on suicide and suicide prevention. We also have a Legislative Action Center, which allows our organizers as well as other visitors to our website to directly contact their Senators and Representatives, learn how they voted on certain bills, identify and contact local media outlets and read about important legislation.
