PIG BUSINESS

‘FOOD from FARMS not FACTORIES'

Pig Business investigates the rise of factory pig farming, a system which abuses animals, pollutes the environment, threatens human health through dangerous overuse of antibiotics, and wrecks rural communities. The film shows how this system which was developed in the USA is now being used in eastern Europe from where the pork, often produced below legal animal welfare standards, is exported to other EU countries putting local farmers out of business.

The message is simple; the future is our choice.

THE CAMPAIGN: FOOD from FARMS not FACTORIES

We believe that the key to sustainable pork production is to support local, small scale, independent, low impact farms where the animals are raised outdoors or in deep bedding with natural light and fresh air where they can express their natural behaviour. This type of farming uses vastly less antibiotics, supports rural communities and does not pollute the water and air. If factory farms were forced to bear the true cost of their production methods, small family farms would out-compete them at the market place.

As consumers we can help bring an end to factory farming by avoiding pork with no welfare label, eating less meat and asking restaurants, sandwich bars and canteens to provide high welfare, humanely raised pork.

We are teaming up with NGO and non-profit partners across the globe, embedding screenings of Pig Business into their campaigns and pushing for ‘Fourth Option' policy reforms recommended by FoodSovCap (The European Network for Food sovereignty and another CAP) -   which encourage local production for local consumption.
