Ciudad Juarez, Mexico has a population of over 100,000 companion animals. Most are homeless and left free to roam the streets. There is no low cost spay/neuter program in the city, and most residents cannot afford this necessary surgery to stem the population growth of unwanted animals. These creatures are hungry, tired, and in need of medical care. There is no shelter in which to house them for possible adoption to loving homes.

From May 1-5, 2003, Paws Across the Border, Inc. co-sponsored the first spay/neuter clinic in Juarez. Vets from AVAR and volunteers from New Mexico and Maryland joined forces with local Juarez volunteers and performed 150 surgeries during these five days. When one does the math, the number of unwanted animals whose lives have been saved is immense.
