The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) was founded in 1950 to eradicate childhood nephrosis and now focuses on all diseases of the kidney and urinary tract. One in nine American adults has Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)- 20 million Americans. Another 20 million are at risk and most don't know it. Through research, health screening, patient service, and education initiatives, the NKF can change the course of illness for people today. Three simple tests can identify early kidney disease; NKF can provide the help health professionals, patients and their families need. The NKF also assists transplant recipients, living donors and donor families sinice 17 people die each day while waiting for a transplant.
