MARINE MAMMAL CENTER

2000 Bunker Road
Sausalito, CA 94965

The Marine Mammal Center recognizes our interdependence with marine mammals and their importance as sentinels of the ocean environment, the health of which is essential for all life. It is our responsibility to use our awareness, compassion, and intelligence to foster marine mammal survival and the conservation of their habitat. The Marine Mammal Center works toward this end: Through rescue and humane treatment of ill, injured or orphaned marine mammals, to return healthy animals to the wild; Through scientific inquiry, to increase knowledge of marine mammals, their health and their environment and assure their long-term survival; Through eduation and communication, to increase appreciation of marine mammals, foster informe ddecision-making affecting them, and inspire action to protect the marine environment. Founded in 1975 by three volunteers, The Marine Mammal Center has grown to an internationally respected marine mammal hospital, rescuing more marine mammals than any other organization in the world. Each year, we treat 600-800 California sea lions, northern elephant seals, Pacific harbor seals and northern fur seals. We also treat endangered Guadalupe fur seals, threatened Steller sea lions, threatened sea otters and occasionally, dolphins. The Center uniquely combines rehabilitation with scientific research and education.
