Foodbank of Santa Barbara County

4554 Hollister Ave
Santa Barbara, CA 93110

Contrary to its reputation for affluence, Santa Barbara County is home to many families and individuals who are living in poverty and struggle to meet their basic needs. More than 17% of the residents of Santa Barbara County live below the federal poverty level (Santa Barbara County Public Health Dept, 2005). Santa Barbara County has one of the highest rates of food insecurity among all counties in California: more than one in three low-income households is food insecure (UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, June 2007). People who are food insecure often do not know where their next meal is coming from. Founded in 1982, the mission of the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County is to distribute nutritious food to those in need and to provide education to solve hunger and nutrition problems in our county.
