East Bay Community Law Center

2921 Adeline St
Berkeley, CA 94703

The East Bay Community Law Center works to challenge and overcome systemic injustice and discrimination by providing:

- vital legal services, organizing support, and policy advocacy for low-income community members in the areas of housing, health care, immigration, income, community reentry, and economic justice; and

- hands-on clinical training for law students to equip future lawyers with the skills, tools, and principles to effectively serve the needs of the community and to help create innovative solutions to the root causes of poverty.

Equal access to justice is a core value of EBCLC. The legal system limits equal access, especially for those living in poverty and those who have historically faced discrimination. Mindful of this challenge, EBCLC strives to ensure that people have meaningful access to well-trained, committed legal advocates.

Advocacy is most effective when it empowers the community and its members. EBCLC believes that as advocates we must work within the community against oppression and toward mutual liberation. EBCLC strives to make the lives of East Bay community members more secure, productive, healthy, and hopeful.

Since our founding by students at Berkeley Law School in 1988, EBCLC has trained more than 1,000 law student interns, over 1,500 community outreach volunteers, and assisted more than 40,000 clients.
