Hi Friends,

On Earth Day, April 22, our Global Warming Campaigner Ryan Patterson paid a visit to Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar to spread the importance of alleviating the pressure global warming puts on the endangered polar bear.

Towards the end of the Bush administration, the polar bear was added to the list of Endangered Species. However, in the few months before his exit, the administration exempted them from assessment when it comes to federal activities that emit greenhouse gases, further endangering the polar bear whose habitat is slowly melting from global warming.

"This is similar to being admitted to the hospital, only to be told that you won't be receiving treatment!" Ryan says.

So, Ryan headed to the Department of the Interior (the DOI) with two polar bears and some young activists and delivered a petition with nearly 85,000 signatures to Secretary Salazar's office, asking him to revoke the Bush administration's policies that counteract the Endangered Species Act's protection for polar bears. Read Ryan's blog about his experience!

Ray Rivera, Director of External and Intergovernmental Affairs for the DOI, greeted Ryan and his crew to take the petition off their hands. He commended them, saying that "he had already seen polar bears in four different states!" He also expressed Secretary Salazar's commitment to scientific principles, which gives us hope that he will reverse Bush's regulations.

Secretary Salazar has been granted with the opportunity by President Obama to revoke the dangerous Bush administration policies. He has until May 9th to sign a bill which wish render these policies null and void. So don't wait! Tell Secretary Salazar that you want to save the polar bear.

Ryan plans to deliver more petitions to Secretary Salazar on May 7th and May 8th in effort to convince him to save the polar bears.

"Biodiversity is something we can all value, and it is clearly unacceptable to watch a species dwindle away until one day it vanishes completely."

It's not too late to sign the petition! We can still save the polar bears. TAKE ACTION NOW!

For the planet,

Prerana
