GlobeMed at Northeastern - 8,000 Steps to Equality

Objective: To raise $8,000 dollars to build an emergency care clinic for the people in the rural mountains of Phrao, Thailand.

Purpose: The 8,000 Steps to Equality Campaign will bring sustainable emergency care to the rural communities of Phrao, Thailand by building a clinic. By providing emergency care the lives of the people in Thailand could be greatly improved by having quality health resources at their fingertips.

Key fact: Injuries and accidents make up 10% of all deaths in Thailand. According to the World Health Organization roadside accidents and lower respiratory infections are among the top ten causes of death in Thailand.

Partner Info: The Warmheart Organization is located in Phrao, Thailand. They are originally a grassroots organization working to rebuild sustainable communities. They listen to the citizens problems and help them make sustainable answers through micro businesses, building children s homes and tackling public health issues.

Project Impact: Our project helps Warmheart's mission by improving public health in the Phrao, community. The building of the emergency care clinic can aid the rural communities of the Phrao mountains in having equal and sustainable health care. The health clinic can also provide employment and empowerment to the people of Phrao to rebuild their culture and community.

Chapter History: NU Globmed has had a brief but meaningful relationship with Warmheart. We have always been committed to improving the global health of the community. Our previous projects have included helping to buy medical suppliers for children's homes as well as buying motorbikes for health professionals to reach their patients in the most rural areas.
