GlobeMed at Loyola University: Hope for Health

At a glance: Our current projects are to raise $1000/year to subsidize half the year's salary of the health care workers and raise $1000/year to fund training for the health care workers.

Key fact: The health care workers of the La Primavera health clinic currently work with no pay and no opportunity for further training.

Partner Info: Our partner is the CasaSito Association located in Guatemala. CasaSito works with communities in Guatemala that are in need of developing educational systems and improving the living conditions within these communities. We are working specifically with a community called La Primavera. The main challenge of La Primavera is that they are in a very remote area making health care access even harder then those in the urban communities.

Project/Impact: Our project is addressing their main challenge of limited access to health care by bringing it to them and establishing a health care infrastructure in La Primavera.

Chapter History: GlobeMed at Loyola University formed a partnership with CasaSito Association in the summer of 2008. In November 2008, we were able to travel to La Primavera and we were able to further understand the hardships the community faces. We are looking forward to continuing to grow our partnership with them in the coming months and years.
