Mission
Genocide Intervention Network empowers individuals and communities with the tools to prevent and stop genocide. Currently focused on conflicts in Sudan, Burma and Democratic Republic of Congo, among other areas of concern, Genocide Intervention Network envisions a world in which the global community is willing and able to protect civilians from genocide and mass atrocities. Accessible online at www.GenocideIntervention.net, the organization is building a permanent anti-genocide constituency, mobilizing the political will to prevent and stop genocide.
Programs
STAND: A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition. STAND is a nationwide, student-led division of the Genocide Intervention Network, which mobilizes high school and college-age young adults through more than 800 campus chapters.
Carl Wilkens Fellowship. The Carl Wilkens Fellowship is a selective, 12-month program that provides a diverse set of emerging citizen leaders with the tools and training to build sustained political will to end genocide. Seeking to bridge the gap between thought and action in the anti-genocide movement, the goal of the Carl Wilkens Fellowship is to develop effective leaders in communities across the United States who have acquired the skills and fostered the relationships necessary to influence and shape US policies on genocide. The program is named in honor of Carl Wilkens, the only American who chose to remain in Rwanda during the 1994 genocide and is credited with saving hundreds of lives.
Conflict Risk Network. CRN, which succeeded the Sudan Divestment Task Force in June 2009, is a network of institutional investors, financial service providers and critical stakeholders who represent more than $500 billion in assets under management. Led by CRN, these institutions have joined forces to increase responsible foreign investment and leverage their sphere of influence in areas afflicted by genocide and mass atrocities.
Our toll-free hotline, 1-800-GENOCIDE provides citizens with an easy way to contact their elected officials. Callers receive up-to-date talking points before being connected directly with their member of Congress, governor or the president.

History
GI-NET's founders believed that private contributions in support of peacekeepers in Darfur, Sudan, the site of the twenty-first century's first genocide, could strengthen the protection of civilians and inspire policymakers to take action. With the help of endorsers, GI-NET established a landmark program which allows average Americans to have a direct impact on the ground where genocide is occurring, by helping to fund civilian protection projects. GI-NET has developed several unique projects in Darfur that improve the safety of women and girls in refugee camps in North Darfur, and is expanding the program to protect civilians in other mass atrocity zones, including Burma. In the long term, we believe empowering individuals to stand against genocide will build the political will necessary for the international community to recognize its responsibility to protect the victims of genocide and mass atrocities.
