Care for Women in the Congo
Friends of the Congo works with the Association of Widows in Kivu, DRC. The Association of Widows has been in existence since the 1970s. Their primary preoccupation today is with women who have been raped and victimized by the war which has cost the lives of 5.4 million Congolese half of whom were 5 years old and younger.
The women work with clinics in 31 parishes throughout South Kivu, one of the hardest hit areas of the conflict in the Congo. In an effort to care for the women and restore a semblance of normality the women are being treated and cared for in the clinics.
Friends of Congo is working to raise $1,000 per parish. Meeting our goal will provide tremendous support for the women and children being cared for in the clinics. Any assistance that you can provide will be of great help.
