Stop Wood Burning for Residential Heating in the United States

Stop Wood Burning for Residential Heating in the United States

The Issue

Wood burning for residential heating emits PM 2.5 particulates into the air.  Neighbors of wood burners suffer health problems ranging from lung cancer and heart disease to cataracts caused by the wood smoke.  The percentage of smoke in total Black Carbon is second only to auto emissions.  Black Carbon is the second leading cause of Global Warming, and stopping Black Carbon is the quickest way to slow climate change.  Wood smoke produces 2.5M particulates, which are smaller than particulates from coal smoke, and so wood smoke infiltrates human lungs and circulatory systems more readily than coal smoke.
