Stop the Attack on the Endangered Species Act
Stop the Attack on the Endangered Species Act
The Issue
The Bush Administration is proposing drastic changes to the Endangered Species Act that threaten to undermine our nation's commitment to endangered fish, plants and wildlife and prohibit needed efforts to prevent global warming from harming wildlife. We need congress to step in right away to prevent these changes from happening.
The new regulations would essentially allow government agencies to decide for themselves if their actions would harm an endangered species - without consulting the experts within the Fish and Wildlife Service or National Marine Fisheries Service. These are the experts on endangered species; we should use them.
The new changes also ignore the impact of global warming on endangered species. Global warming is one of the greatest threats to our endangered wildlife, fish and plants, but the administration's proposal would prevent agencies from acknowledging that sources of global warming are what create the effects of global warming.
You can learn more on the Endangered Species Coalition website.
Please contact your members of congress below and ask them to prevent President Bush's attempts to weaken the Endangered Species Act.
