Many schools are short staffed.  Teachers' time can be stretched thin.  Your local school will no doubt apreciate you offering your time.  It can be something as simple as reading a story, offering tutoring assistance, or a cleanup project.  You could even bring you own ideas for the school.  Visit your local school and ask if there are any volunteer opportunities or offer your expertise.
