Tell CGU: Torturing Birds Won't Sell Insurance!

In an act of tasteless TV, insurance company CGU is running an ad featuring a lady singing about selling foie gras.

To make this dreadfully disgusting 'delicacy' geese or ducks are force-fed to make their livers grow to 10 times their natural size. Three times a day they have a metal tube shoved down their throat to pump huge amounts of food into their stomach.

Birds can suffer internal bleeding and may even die from damage caused by the tube. Their force-fed-fatty-diet also takes its toll with some birds dying of heart failure. Their oversized liver puts great strain on the other organs, causing severe pain and breathing problems. And some birds die simply from the stress and fear caused by their miserable life. By the time the birds are sent to slaughter, 30 – 70% have bone fractures, severe wounds or infections.

Because of the extreme cruelty involved, it is illegal to produce foie gras in Australia. But that doesn't stop it being imported. Over 25 million geese and ducks worldwide are farmed for this putrid paté and some of this ends up in Australian restaurants and delis!

With so many abused birds suffering for foie gras we think it's in terrible taste for CGU to be promoting this horrendously cruel product.

Foie Gras: No Laughing Matter

This duck is being force fed via a metal tube - three times a day. She is one of over 25 million birds who endures a life of intollerable pain and suffering, all for the sake of 'delicacy' called foie gras. Pronounced 'fwa gra', it literally means 'fatty liver' in French and is a paté made from the swollen livers of ducks or geese.
