Right now, there are potentially thousands of children living in America, adopted by U.S. citizen parents, who fully believe they are themselves citizens -- but aren't.

Though the Child Citizenship Act of 2000 essentially made citizenship automatic for transnational adoptees residing in the United States, anyone over 18 when the law went into effect was left out.

Most of these people don't remember their country of birth, speak the language, or have any contacts there. Yet as non-citizens, the are at risk for deportation from their homes.

The Foreign Adopted Children Equality (FACE) Act would treat adopted children the same as biological children, and allow adoptees who are now adults to obtain citizenship as well.
