Every year, the canadian goverment allows sealers to beat and skin hundreds of thousands of seals, many of whom are only weeks old. these babies have their skulls smashed in or are shot. They are definseless and cannot escape as other pups around them are assulted. mother seals watch helplessly as their babies are bludgeoned to death just a few feet away from them. Eyewitnesses have documented the mothers desperate cries and futile attempts to protect their babies.

  To avoid damaging the fur, sealers routinely hook the seals the seals in the eye, cheek, or mouth and drag them across the ice while they are still conscious. Many of these gentle animals may not even have eaten their first solid food or taken their first swim they are slaughterd.
