Compassion Without Borders

Mission

Compassion without Borders saving animals of mexico

Compassion without Borders is an all volunteer, grassroots non-profit that works to bring about humane reform for the animals of Mexico through spay and neuter, humane education and outreach, international rescue efforts, and humane euthanasia programs.

Programs

International Dog Rescue
Since 2001, Compassion Without Borders, has been coordinating an international rescue from Mexico to Northern California. To date, we have saved the lives of hundreds of dogs. The rescue is a collaborative effort between Compassion without Borders and our partner organizations.

Mexico Spay and Neuter Clinics
Since 2003, CWOB has been organizing week-long "Spay Camps" in different regions of Mexico. The goal of the week long clinics is not only to provide a large volume of free, high quality sterilizations to impoverished communities, but also to train local veterinarians and animal advocacy groups how to impliment their own ongoing spay and neuter efforts in these areas --thus working toward permanently, locally based solutions.

Project Anapra Stationary Clinic
Project Anapra is a community based humane reform program CWOB spearheaded recently in a very impoverished town along the Mexico-US border, {for a complete overview click here}.

Humane Education
Compassion Without Borders firmly believes in the importance of humane
education.
In every community we serve, we distribute coloring/ activity
books to the children that teach them valuable lessons about how animals
feel, what they need, how they should be treated, etc.
In addition to educating the children, we distribute educational materials
to adults in the community and work with local media to spread our message
of compassion and respect for all living creatures and to promote the
spay/neuter solution.

CWOB also provides informational materials and resources for local rescue and animal protection groups throughout Mexico.

Humane Euthanasia
Ending Electrocution in Mexico
Electrocution is the most common method employed to kill unwanted animals in Mexico. This archaic practice is not only painful and slow, but is also highly unreliable and is often carried out with makeshift equipment in nightmarish conditions. Although federal law in Mexico requires the animals be unconscious or sedated prior to being electrocuted, this legality is virtually never enforced and the animals are almost always electrocuted while fully conscious and aware.

Compassion without Borders is working hard to change all of this. We are replacing electrocution with intravenous humane euthanasia, as practiced in shelters around the US. We are also sponsoring complete humane overhauls of these facilities, consisting of improved standards of care, employee trainings, and rescue efforts.

COMMUNITY APPROACH
The areas we are serving are desperately poor. The poverty we are working around is difficult for the average citizen of the United States to imagine.

We recognize that the suffering we see in the companion animals is a direct byproduct of the human poverty and lack of resources in these communities.

Whenever possible, we bring donations of school supplies, blankets, clothing, food and other useful goods for the community members in the areas we serve.

History

Compassion Without Borders was founded in 2001 by Christi Payne and Juan Ramon Camblor . The main focus of our organization is to alleviate the suffering of unwanted companion animals in Mexico and other low resource regions through international rescue efforts and extensive spay/neuter campaigns.

Our board is made up of veterinarians and professional animal advocates with decades of experience from around the country. We are staffed by 100% volunteer labor – which means 100% of all donations can go directly toward our work!
