Borehole and Water Tank Structure

The borehole and Water tank structure intends to improve the standard of water supply for the entire community of Ipong in Obudu, Nigeria, which at present suffers from acute supply of clean water.

A borehole will be drilled in an already existing stream that presently provides seasonal water that is unfit for drinking and washing of clothes. After drilling a borehole, a water tank structure will be built and a pump installed to pump water to four big overhead tanks, each of which can hold 1,000 cubic liters of water. This water will be used seasonally, especially in the dry season, through the aid of pipes that will connect 15 taps for the entire village.

Through this Borehole and Water Tank Project, there will be improved quality of water supply for the entire community, whose members will no longer have to travel to far away locations to look for clean water. Local community business fellows will no longer need to travel to the nearby urban town to buy the popular “Pure water” sold in sachets for their business ventures. Instead groups will be encouraged to package this clean water themselves locally to sell out to local businesses as well as to other villages at reduced prices. This will bring in economic profits to both individuals and groups within the Ipong community. Finally, this project will eventually help in supplying water for irrigation systems in nearby farmlands.
