(Half) Marathon for Compassion - Support Team Vegan!
Thank you for visiting our Half-Marathon for Compassion fundraising page! We are a team of vegans who decided to challenge ourselves to run a 13.1-mile race (Madison Half Marathon) on May 24 while also raising much-needed funds for a cause we all feel very passionately about.
Please make a donation* in our honor to help us support Compassion Over Killing, an organization dedicated to ending farmed animal abuse and promoting vegan eating.
* Be sure to use the "DONATE" BUTTON on the top right of this page.

About Us:
Ellie Johnson: Age 25, Vegan for 6 years
This is my first half-marathon and my first time training for any kind of sport. It's one of the most empowering and exciting things I've ever done! Completing the race will definitely be rewarding, but I want it to be more than a personal accomplishment. Running to help raise money for Compassion Over Killing (COK) motivates me because this race is now about the animals, too!
Elena Pires: Age 22, Vegan for 5 years
This is my first half-marathon, and training for it has been incredible. Three months ago I wouldn't have believed that I'd be able to run 5 miles at once, let alone 13. I've gained this amazing feeling of energy and power, both mental and physical. I hope that my running for Compassion Over Killing shows that compassion and power can go hand-in-hand. I have never felt more powerful in my life, and I feel even more empowered to help those who are powerless.
Erik Grau: Age 23, Vegan for 4 years
For me, going vegan is an important step in ending the suffering of animals raised for food, killed for their skin, experimented on, and used in entertainment. I'm running to raise money for COK because it is an organization that truly promotes a vegan lifestyle in addition to educating the public about how animals are used throughout the world for human profit.
Shannon Tervo: Age 29, Vegan for 1.5 years
I consider myself a novice runner, having completed my first 5k about 2 years ago. This is my first half-marathon and I am thrilled to be running for COK. I believe knowledge is power and COK does so much to bring the truth about animal exploitation industries to the public. I was a vegetarian for nearly 14 years before I saw the vegan light, and I have organizations like COK to thank for providing the information I needed to make what has turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made.
Thank you for your support! Every dollar helps make a difference, and even if you can't make a financial contribution, we hope you'll visit www.TryVeg.com for more information about vegan eating. Being vegan is easier than ever, and it's one of the most effective steps each of us can take to help protect our personal health, the planet, and most importantly, billions of animals.

Great work, guys!! Maybe you could run with shirts that say "vegan" on them or "tryveg.com", etc. Spectators will get the message and also call out to you.

Good luck to you all! I would love to hear more about this group .. I am not a vegan or vegetarian but as a new mother, I probably need to think about this lifestyle and the animals involved!
