Food Crisis in Uganda

Summer is finally here!   This time of year is generally a time for relaxation, vacations, weddings, barbeques and graduations. This year has also brought unprecedented hikes in fuel and food costs all over the world. All of us are feeling the pinch and Uganda is no exception.

The cost of everything is rising fast in Uganda. Food is a huge issue and is at a near crisis point.  Prices are getting higher daily - as much as 30-50% increases in the staples eaten by our children (such as posho, rice and other basics) in the last month alone and still rising.We need to raise $25,000 in the next 30 days and cannot do so without your support and generosity.

Additionally, schools are making mid-term fee adjustments and people are eating only 1 meal daily. The situation is very serious and is on the mind of everyone throughout the country according to one of our Board members who is on the ground right now helping to promote food sustainability. We urgently need your help today with an emergency donation of $50, $100, $150 or more. Children of Uganda serves more than 600 children. We provide each child education, shelter, clothing and food.

Our mission is to support and empower these vulnerable young people who (in most cases) have no parents or support system to care for them. Providing them adequate and nutritious food is critical to help develop their young minds and bodies. Please give us a special gift today to help us meet the growing financial demand of food costs.

I wish more people would become aware of what's happening in Nothern Uganda. It's a tragity, going on for over twenty years, and it needs to be addressed. Right now children, as well as adults, are going without proper nutritious food. If I were to step on the scale and weigh myself I'd realize I don't need to consume as much food as I do. Hmmm....Maybe if I ate a little, tiny bit less I could help feed some of those in Uganda with the money I didn't have to spend by sending it to them instead. Think I'll do it.
