Prevent Genocide

Mission:
Mobilizing communities, organizations, and leaders to help prevent and stop genocide
Founder:
ivan b. ivan b. , Philadelphia, PA
Description:
We believe that the global community is unconditionally responsible to prevent and stop genocide.  The mass killing of human beings based on national, ethnic, racial, or religious identity is profoundly intolerable; we cannot remain silent in the face of genocide.  Thus, we support efforts to intervene in genocidal conflicts such as the Darfur genocide in the Sudan, as well as the use of political and economic pressure to fight against genocidal regimes.  Our goal is to empower individuals and communities with the tools to help stop and prevent genocide.

Never Again: From a Promise We Make to a Commitment We Keep

from ivan b.  Vline2  Jan 04, 2007

The Genocide Intervention Network envisions a world in which the global community is willing and able to protect civilians from genocide and mass atrocities. Our mission is to empower individuals and communities with the tools to prevent and stop genocide.

The international community must recognize their “Responsibility to Protect” civilians threatened by mass atrocities when their own governments are unwilling or unable to prevent such violence.

In response to a question as to why the government was not doing more about Rwanda, a White House adviser said simply, "you must make more noise."

Samantha Power, author of "A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide," argues that the United States has not chosen inaction in the face of genocide because there was nothing it could do -- but because no one asked the government to do anything. Quite simply, there was no political will for action.

We aim to prevent the first permanent anti-genocide constituency.
