Japan refuses to apologize

via www.nytimes.com  Vline2  posted by Jonathan P.  Vline2  Mar 07, 2007

Japan's Prime Minister denies the involvement of their Imperial government in the abduction of "comfort women" across the territories it took during WW2. It will have to before any of the tensions it still has with China and other Asian countries get any better.

Rape Victim Seeks Long Path to Justice

via hosted.ap.org  Vline2  posted by Matt D.  Vline2  Feb 24, 2007

An amazing story I came across today about a woman who was raped two decades ago, and receives a letter out of the blue from the man who raped her.  It really brings home how sexual assault can destroy so many lives, and how its effects are so persistent.  While...

Sex crime is a sign a stupidity and weakness.

from Vera M.  Vline2  Apr 06

Sex crime against women and children is the leader in hurt around the world. Somehow we gasp only when it leads to death, which it often does. Death of one’s soul is usually equal to the death of one’s body. These scars don’t heal.  Why do we as society think that this is okay? People are not intended for abuse. Sex crime is the ultimate tragedy whether against child or adult. "That is just the way it is" is no longer a good excuse. Change starts in the mind and the mind needs to change to understand that no one deserves to be a victim. No matter whom they are or where they live, people deserve justice but they are not going to get it until you realize that they are people just like you, if not better. The value of one’s existence diminishes with the idea of one's superiority or entitlement.
When society begins to condemn the offender and demonstrate that they are weak and evil then perhaps being born can be less of a invitation to abuse to most of the population.

It Cannot.

from Harrison L.  Vline2  Apr 04

Rape and civilized society cannot coexist. A society where the vulnerable are exploited and preyed upon is one of weakness.

Sexual Harrassment Must Stop!

from Louise P.  Vline2  Dec 12, 2007

Having been sexually molested myself, I know first hand how it impacts ones life. How it changes who you are and disrupt healthy relationships. It took me a long time to have this crime be part of my past and not my present and affect me. Don't wish that on anyone.

The scale is staggering...

from Matt D.  Vline2  Feb 23, 2007

The statistics on sexual violence are horrifying, but I became interested in this issue for more personal reasons.  In my four years in college, no fewer than seven separate women confided in me personally that they were sexually assaulted and/or raped.  I'm just one person, and this was not in any kind of professional or peer advisory capacity.  Soon you get to the point where you wonder about each woman you pass as you walk around campus.  Was she raped?  How about her?  For every victim I knew that talked to me, I'm sure there were many I knew that didn't.  I saw a man who raped a good friend of mine graduate and go on to become a respected medical doctor, while I watched her life fall apart.  I began to ask myself how this problem could exist on such a scale, and the only answer I came up with is tolerance, tolerance of a society for sexual violence, and especially violence against women.  Plagiarism was often more severely punished at my college than rape.  Men need to stand with women in making sexual violence so unacceptable that it all but disappears from society.  It can have no place in any modern civilized culture.  There can be zero tolerance for sexual violence.

From a Survivor's POV..

from Tatiana D.  Vline2  Feb 08, 2007

There are so many more cases of rape, assault and harassment than we could ever believe. Women (and men) are not reporting it and therefore it is not as known as widespread as it really it. It has become an issue that no longer shocks our culture, but needs to..and soon. Sexual Violence is NEVER ok and should be treated as such.
