End Dependency on Oil

- Mission:
- Ending America's dependency on foreign oil, which undermines world security and contributes to global warming
- Founder:
-
Angella W.
, San Francisco, CA
- Description:
- Although the U.S. possesses only 3 percent of the world's oil, it consumes 25 percent. The consequences of this “deadly addiction” to fossil fuels range from the continuing worsening of the climate crisis to the funding of dictatorial governmental regimes. We already possess much of the technology necessary to cut ourselves free from fossil fuels, and we urge political and corporate leaders to lead the world towards a brighter, more energy-sustainable world.

I remember when, much to my surprise, I learned that coal is still one of the largest sources of energy for the United States. Coal?- didn't we finish with that in the 1800's? Call me impractical, call me insane, but let's take such a naive statement in stride and make it an attitude not only for coal but for oil. Disregard the costs; disregard the practicality; let's end not only our dependency on oil but our entire use of it. You have the power to create new power!

The above documentary really opened my eyes. Without oil, it is estimated that we can only support 2.5 billion people on the planet unless our agriculture and transportation systems are completely re-invented. Control of oil has been involved in many of the wars of the past 100 years. Currently I am reading "Oil Crisis" by C.J. Campbell, who has come to the attention of "American Intelligence Agencies" for his efforts. The dinosaurs controlling our country will do literally anything to "preserve our way of life" even if it destroys the planet's ability to sustain life. This is the essential issue of our times and is the root of so many other things we want to Change.
stop the addiction

We are addicted to oil in this country and we can end the addiction with alternative fuels and less reliance on the automobile. We have to demand these alternatives (such as electric cars) and stop letting the big oil companies and their lackies squeeze out all the competition.
Alternative Fuels are Oppressed

There is no doubt in my mind that the technology that would make the global dependency on oil obsolete exists. The only problem is that the global economy is too heavily dependent on the oil industry, thus the technology that *could* "save" the planet is oppressed. Hopefully a political figure that cares about this issue comes into play sooner then later that can change all of this (Al Gore?).
Until then, there is no hope. IMHO.

More recently (but common before also) the US has transferred its oil dependency to the mining for oil on indigenous land here in the North American continent. Seeing as the land given to indigenous Americans (reservations/reserves) is already many times quite unliveable its a shame that the US seeks to make it even more so by mining the land on which they live on. (you can google Bristol Bay and find out Bush's more recent initiative to gain oil for the American public).
