Giving people money and going away gives them the idea that they deserve to be taken care of without working for themselves which leads to low self-esteem and work ethic. If people are given the resources to develop their own businesses to be self-sustaining, then they gain priceless knowledge and the ability to provide for themselves and others around them as well as improving their community.
Micro Credit - a message in itself

Besides all the already shared reasons why microdredit is such an amazing system, i would add that the nature of microcredit itself and the development is leads to, break the paradigm that entrepreneurship is something that implies a lot of money of investment (that is hard to get) and on the other side, ratifies the fact that being an entrepreneur is about having the right attitude, teh rights values and teh right management skills, and not necesarely the biggest amount of money. Also it supports the concept that some things start "small" and there is nothing wrong with that, and that persistence and and a strong VISION is what in the end makes the difference.

Micro Crediting is such an amazing source of hope for the world's poor. What I like about the idea the most is that it is a way of helping people get on their feet and make their own success, as opposed to flat out charity, which doesn't inspire as much pride and self-worth. I support helping the world's poor in any way possible, but I like the idea of Micro Crediting, because it is helping the poor help themselves.
Micro Finance: Capitalism 2.0

Micro finance is quickly proving itself to be one of the most positive and driving forces of capitalism. It is at the least a band-aid on the global exploitation of unrestrained free marked capitalism - and at most perhaps one of the answers to systemic third world poverty.
If you are not aware of micro finance (or Micro Credit as it is called here) please look it up on Wikipedia or another source and see if it is something you are interested in!

Gives entrepreneurial opportunities to the working poor allowing them to build businesses, provide for their families and invest in their communities. All interest charged on their loans is reinvested in the non-profit. SUSTAINABLE!
