Description:
Human beings settled wherever water was available. Clean fresh flowing water was available at rivers So the early settlements are on the banks of the Rivers like the Nile, Euphrates, Indus, Ganges, and others.  The Rivers 'digested' and 'recycled' our wastes for thousands of years. In the last few decades the population has grown and the culture of 'Use and Throw' has created packaging which is designed in order to help us to lazily avoid having to wash the containers. We have also added pollutants to our effluents - pollutants which nature has yet to learn how to 'digest' and 'recyle' into harmless components. The entire population of the River Basin is of stake-holders who are today unaware of their responsibilities towards the protection of the river and the conservation of t... Read more

As an iEARN teacher I am involved in River Conservation Projects

from Geetanjali B.  Vline2  May 09

As an iEARN teacher I have been testing the water of the River Mutha in Pune.

A month back I was in New York attending the iEARN "Four Rivers One World" workshop. I have come back with renewed determination to work with my students this year. We will create responsible and sensitive young global citizens together. I have been on the river Bhima during Jaladindi. I am convinced the river water testing is a good starting point for children to get involved in Environment and in their development as global citizens.

Because when our rivers are healthy it will mean that we are healthy in all ways.

from Vinod B.  Vline2  May 04

Experience as an activist within the Jaladindi People's Movement, initiated by the NGO Jaladindi Pratishthaan under the able mentoring of Dr.Vishwas Yevale, has taught me that entire villages, towns and cities in the river basin have to be reached and transformed in ALL their aspects before the river flows clean and pure AND the entire River Basin is comprehensively healed in all aspects of water management and conservation.

It is an exhaustively comprehensive approach. I believe such an approach is being explored in other river basins and people's movements to save rivers in other countries - I believe that by sharing their experiences each of the people's movements will be enriched and empowered.
