Working on a film, IN DEBT WE TRUST about predatory lenders

My company, DocWorkers, is running the nat'l campaign for Emmy-winner Danny Schechter's terrific (and scary) documentary, IN DEBT WE TRUST: AMERICA BEFORE THE BUBBLE BURSTS. We also are partnered with leading scholar Bob Manning (Credit Card Nation) on an awareness campaign called Stop The Squeeze.

Taking Advantage

Just-sign-here credit card applications in the mail with exorbitant interest rates, 2nd and 3rd mortgages that put the total mortgaged at more than the real value of the house in question, payday lending, car title lending, lending practices that prey on the elderly and disabled homeowner -- these all take advantage of those least able to protect themselves and least able to cope with the result. And recent changes in bankruptcy law make it almost impossible to escape the negative impact of these if one falls into the trap.

Debt trap

The practices of payday lending, car title lending, and predatory mortgage lending bring about pronounced negative effects on society’s most vulnerable citizens by trapping them in a cycle of debt from which it is very difficult to escape.
