Save our bees!

Mission:
To educate about and find a solution for the disappearance of our bee population.

Description:
As reported on 60 Minutes, "Honeybees are the unsung heroes of the food chain, crucial to the production of one third of the foods we eat. So when billions of bees began to mysteriously disappear last year, there was plenty of concern and no shortage of theories, blaming everything from cell phones to divine rapture." As the number of bees dwindles and beekeepers, farmers, and consumers suffer, those closest to the problem have offered their own ideas and solutions for the problem. David Hackenberg, a beekeeper profiled on the 60 Minutes special, says that most beekeepers believe that one culprit is a new type of pesticide called "neonicotinoids," a synthetic chemical based on nicotine. "Well, basically, the chemical, the manufacturers of this product say it breaks down their immune s... Read more

The bee pollinates. We only pollute.

from Vinod B.  Vline2  May 12

The food chain will collapse !
To bee or not to bee is the buzz phrase with which we must Shake  spear(e)s of verse and prose at the powers that are.
Beyond that - who is doing the research? What more do they need to empower their research ?
Is this a problem in every country now ? In every continent ?

Oh bee, where is thy sting ? We miss it !
Where is thy proboscis ? Our flowers miss it !

Why all the buzz you may be asking?

from Pamela B.  Vline2  Jan 12

I am a passionate member of the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.  They produce an amazing bi-monthly publication.  The latest issue's editorial is dedicated to the current bee crisis.

I would like to share two excerpts and recognize their president, Michael Mountain -- a staunch advocate for animals and our planet.

"The fact that this colony collapse disorder -- bees leaving their hives for a regular work-day among the flowers, and never returning -- has spread to canyon country show how serious the situation has become.  All over the world, scientists are racing to figure out what's going on.  After all, no bees means no pollination; no pollination, no flowering crops; no crops, no food; no food, big trouble.

. . . Albert Einstein once said that if bees were to disappear, humankind would surely follow a few years later."

The threat and potential catastrophic consequences are fact -- not science fiction.

As Mr. Mountain so astutely observed -- "what we are doing to the bees, we are doing to ourselves."

That's why I support this change!
