As an iEARN teacher I am involved in River Conservation Projects

from Geetanjali B.  Vline2  May 09

As an iEARN teacher I have been testing the water of the River Mutha in Pune.

A month back I was in New York attending the iEARN "Four Rivers One World" workshop. I have come back with renewed determination to work with my students this year. We will create responsible and sensitive young global citizens together. I have been on the river Bhima during Jaladindi. I am convinced the river water testing is a good starting point for children to get involved in Environment and in their development as global citizens.

Because when our rivers are healthy it will mean that we are healthy in all ways.

Experience as an activist within the Jaladindi People's Movement, initiated by the NGO Jaladindi Pratishthaan under the able mentoring of Dr.Vishwas Yevale, has taught me that entire villages, towns and cities in the river basin have to be reached and transformed in ALL their aspects before the river flows clean and pure AND the entire River Basin is comprehensively healed in all aspects of water management and conservation.

It is an exhaustively comprehensive approach. I believe such an approach is being explored in other river basins and people's movements to save rivers in other countries - I believe that by sharing their experiences each of the people's movements will be enriched and empowered.
