Improve Public Schools

Great Public Schools guarantee educated citizens

from Manuel P.  Vline2  Jun 18

As a product of a wonderful NYC public school education, I know how effective public education can be.   But in Venezuela as an oil industry HR person (and now in NYC as a teacher) I clearly saw and still see the importance of public schools:
Great public schools generate the standard that private schools must meet, so when public school's standards or discipline improve (or don't),  the same happens in private schools.   In Venezuela, I actually saw private school education that was clearly inferior, yet there was no alternative to those schools for parents to go to, which meant that demand drove the creation of yet more inferior schools.

At this moment, our public schools are suffering from a lack of discipline, and from conditions that actually chase out the good teachers.   The lack of discipline is both political and societal (some parents actually state that their children are the teacher's problem during the school day).   All of these problems can be addressed, but they require working together as a community and understanding that some of the solutions won't be comfortable or "politically correct".

Common Sense

from Emerald B.  Vline2  Jun 06

Kids are our future.  I don't know about you, but I don't want a bunch of uneducated morons running the world.  Kids deserve a fantastic education.

Everyone should support this change

from ashley t.  Vline2  May 12

Child are our future. I have a 4 yr old son and I would like to think that he has the right to go to a school that has a relief of constant violence, as well as the right to a proper education. I do not want to think about my son having to walk through a metal detector, just to go to school everyday.

Equal public education for all children

from Angela T.  Vline2  May 03

I work in a public school. I love my job, but I see how little changes could make a big difference in the lives of children.

I see teachers who are burnt out after a few years of teaching. I see parents that are frustrated with the lack of consistancy in eduacation. I see students from rural areas who have given up on the idea of going to college from a tender age.

I want to see improvments and I want to help.

Public Schools

from Elia H.  Vline2  Feb 17

It is very important to improve each of the public schools worldwide. Not just in a particular city in Cadiz Spain; because education is very important to each of us...

Work smarter, not harder

from Vince S.  Vline2  Feb 04

We homeschooled out kids for two years.  In that time, they spent lass than 3 hours per day doing schoolwork/homework.  We went on numerous day trips and had a blast!  Meanwhile, they successfully completed thier curriculum and virtually passed up most (read all) other kids tha were in thier prior classes.  Now they are back in school and both getting "perfect" report cards.  Their only complaint: School is "boring" because it moves too slow!  And they are both in "honors" classes!

The only thing I really like about it is that is helps prepare them for the "real" world where these people will be in the workplace and patience is a must!

If our school could somehow figure out a way to cut back on unnecessary time fillers and spend more time with individual (or small group) lessons, we'd all be better off.  But the reality is it tkaes $$ and that isn't something we seem to have... so maybe it will just take more parent involvement...

Education is Vital

from Peter S.  Vline2  Jan 19

What are we without an education? We seriously need to improve education and change the nature of it. Many kids go through school without learning very much that's important to them. Classes on philosophy and service and society should be emphasized over sciences and math that should only be pursued by those seeking careers in those areas. Let's make schools enlightening and inspiring for children and not just a drudgery required to get on with life.

improving public schools

from Danielle W.  Vline2  Jan 15

This is one of the biggest things i would like to see changed.
Only one year being out of H.S. and looking back they're so many neccessary changes i can list quickly. One that bothers me of how unfocused sometimes the school can make you... -needs to be something done about it.

I mean, it seems pretty obvious.
