What is the Changemakers Network all about?
Change.org's Changemakers Network will include a select group of prominent activists, elected officials, authors, bloggers, actors, musicians and thought leaders who have demonstrated the ability to create change on the issues that matter to them most. Each Changemaker will be invited to periodically write on an issue they're passionate about and have their content featured prominently on Change.org and pushed throughout our network of 1 million activists, 4000 organizational partners, and 20,000 affiliated bloggers. Content produced by Changemakers will help to frame the complexities of major issues, drive the public discourse toward positive and lasting solutions, and mobilize millions of people to take action.
What happens once I cast a vote or nominate a Changemaker?
Your vote, along with votes of the Change.org community, will be the primary factor that Change.org's team of
bloggers and full-time staff will use to determine which nominated individuals should be approached about being
part of the Changemakers Network. Other factors that will be considered will include diversity of background, breadth
of issues covered, and capacity to drive conversation and action.
We will be announcing the first members of Change.org's Changemakers Network soon after voting concludes.
Do the people who receive the most number of votes automatically become Changemakers?
Not necessarily. There are a number of criteria that we are considering when reaching out to potential Changemakers (see above), but the more votes an individual gets, the more likely it is that we'll make the approach to ask them to be part of the Changemaker network.
How do I nominate Changemaker?
It's easy. Just click this link and submit a short form describing the Changemaker. Our team will review and publish the nomination so long as the person has clearly demonstrated an ability to drive conversation or action on an issue of social or environmental importance.
What if I see an error in one of the nominated individual's biographies?
Good catch! If you see an error in one of the biographies or have additions or edits to suggest, please send us a note.
For Prospective Changemakers
What does agreeing to be a Changemaker entail?
Change.org is recruiting its first group of leaders for the Changemakers Network, to be officially launched
in the late fall, 2009. Our goal is to give an additional platform to prominent voices across a variety of issues
and promote their ideas, campaigns and causes. In doing so, we want to help drive the debate and increase the number
of actions taken on the most important issues of the day.
Participation is simple: we'll set-up your profile on the Changemakers Network page. When you want to write a
brief article or blog post on an issue of importance and drive conversation or action, you can send it to us and our
editorial team will feature it on the Change.org homepage and push it out to our community of more than 500,000
activists and thousands of nonprofit partners, aligned bloggers, and followers and fans on Twitter and Facebook.
When appropriate we will attach a call to action to each Changemaker article - whether that's to mobilize people to
lobby Congress on an important bill, pressure a company to change a policy, or drive people to volunteer for an event
or donate to an organization. Over the past six months the Change.org platform has been used to win more than a dozen
campaigns to convince companies, Federal agencies, local governments, and major organizations to make positive change
on issues of importance, and we want to offer this platform to prominent voices who can leverage the Change.org
network to increase their impact.
What is Change.org?
Change.org is an online hub for social change. By producing daily content about issues and connecting readers to opportunities for action, we serve as the central platform for launching, promoting and empowering movements for social change around the most important issues of our time.
