Vector-borne Diseases in the Ecuadorian Amazon

About 40% of Latin America's population lives in areas where Malaria is still a risk. Considered eliminated in the 1970's in many countries, Malaria and other vector-borne disease are re-emerging in South America.

CFHI's Vector-borne Diseases in the Ecuadorian Amazon program addresses the epidemiological, entomological, and prevention aspects of vector-borne diseases. This program includes a week in the Ecuadorian capital, Quito, followed by 3 weeks in the jungle town of Puyo.

Participants will be exposed and participate in activities conducted by SNEM, a public institution in charge of preventing and controlling vector-borne diseases such as Chagas, Dengue, Malaria, Leishmaniasis and Yellow Fever. The Medical Director of the program, Dr. Wilfrido Torres, works as an epidemiologist at SNEM.
