I Heart B:WM
I became aware of B:WM through being an enthusiastic Jars of Clay fan. I became involved with B:WM because it was the first organization I felt completely comfortable with. These are down-to-earth, dedicated, beautiful people who make you feel involved on every level. Thanks to the organization's awesome website, with journals and pics from their trips to Africa, you almost feel like you're there. With B:WM updates on projects, you feel like your contributions are really making a difference in the lives of our brothers and sisters. As someone who doesn't have alot of money to give, this organization is a huge blessing. You can volunteer to run a B:WM table at a concert (Jars of Clay, Derek Webb, Christopher Williams...and other artists who support the mission). It is an awesome feeling to educate someone else about the cause, and maybe have them make a donation. One dollar = clean water for one African for one year! How can you not get involved?
Good people doing great things.
Blood:Water mission understands that access to clean water is foundational to the development of a functioning community and the ongoing struggle against HIV/AIDS.
They're a small Tennessee-based non-profit that has built extensive partnerships with African communities. They're currently working on a campaign to build 1000 wells across the continent at an average cost of $3000 each. In the end, one dollar donated is enough to finance clean water for one person for one year (comparatively speaking, $1 buys me a bottle of Aquafina which lasts about an hour).
That said, I've supported them before and have a few friends who organize campaigns to support the organization as well. Blood:Water are good people doing great things.
