Willie Nelson Georgia Dog Fighting Bill

American Legend Willie Nelson joined forces with Best Friends Animal Society to take a stand against dog fighting. Before a recent concert at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nelson took the time to make his feelings known about the brutal industry of dog fighting by shooting a PSA in support of Senate Bill 16. If passed, SB 16, which will be introduced in the 2008 Georgia legislative session, will amend and strengthen the state's dog fighting laws.

Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) is a law or statute that equates the qualities of a dangerous dog with a certain breed, and bans or restricts certain breeds based on identity, not behavior of a specific animal. BSL identifies a dog as "dangerous" based upon its breed alone and not based on any action or offense that the individual dog has ever committed Breed-specific legislation is not an effective approach for regulating dogs' behavior in communities. Although such bans might comfort individuals who have had unpleasant experiences with particular breeds or have heard of attacks by specific dog breeds in the media, the bans do not act to effectively regulate the behavior of any breed or of dogs and their owners collectively.
