Published May 22, 2009 @ 08:00AM PT
This is a great article that shows the risks of indoor prostitution. Too often indoor prostitution is thought of as safe, but the dangers are far too great and real because the men who purchase sex acts can be serial rapists, murderers and abusive men looking to prey on youth and women who are unlikely to seek aid from law enforcement. "What they (general public) don't understand is the girls that were on the street- that wasn't the problem, that was just a symptom of the problem. The biggest problem was what we went through when we were kids, what we went through that drove us to think that we needed to be out there and what drove us to keep us out there...that was the root of it." -Sabrina*, Survivor of sex trafficking in the U.S. The Barnaba Institute *Name altered to protect her identity.

We have been working for quite some time in one Connecticut city. As we have worked there we have seen so many young girls being bought and sold that it has staggered my mind. I personally have seen kids as young as 11 and women as old as mid-forties being pimped out in this city. One day when Frank and I were working we saw a young pregnant woman being abused and hassled because she wanted to take a break and sit for a moment. Another time, with two of our volunteers, we saw a girl being dropped of by a “john” who was yelling, calling her a “Stupid b!#@h” She was distraught and yelled back in defense of herself. He then tried to drive at her with his truck. We have at times seen as many as 50 girls and women working in this city on a single visit, and have t... Read More
