Make A Difference Day

All sponsors will be acknowledged in any PR materials & press releases that get sent out, in the educational materials & our e-newsletter which is received by over 8,000 people. We have added the “Make a Difference” Day educational materials to the site. The materials are updated regularly as we add the hands on projects taking place throughout the country. If you are organizing a project & want to be included in the listing please complete the rubric below & send it to us at your earliest convenience.
Here is the information for “Make a Difference” Day. We hope that you can participate.
Areyvut’s “Make a Difference” Day
The Goal of “Make a Difference” Day We invite schools, synagogues, families and community organizations to dedicate their day to helping others. Areyvut’s “A Kindness a Day Calendar: 365 Ways to Make a Difference,” which offers 365 suggestions of how to incorporate tikkun olam into everyday life, is already uniting Jewish communities across the country in an effort to inspire acts of kindness. On “Make a Difference” Day, this effort will be strengthened; thousands of families will turn the calendar’s suggestions into action with the help of educational resources that Areyvut will provide.
Themes The themes for the 2008 “Make a Difference” Day were go green and preserving the environment. Educational materials are available to help participants address the theme. The materials include texts relating to these values, hands on activities to do with students, suggestions for follow-ups, and other educational resources. You can see the 2006 “Make a Difference” Day resources at www.areyvut.org/action/makeed2006.pdf. The 2007 “Make a Difference” Day materials (http://www.areyvut.org/action/makeed2007.pdf) are available at www.areyvut.org/Action/make2007.asp.
Participation Schools, synagogues, organizations and individuals are all invited to participate in the program, regardless of whether or not they own an “A Kindness a Day Calendar.” Each individual setting will determine the best structure to implement the materials. We anticipate annually about 25 hands-on-projects throughout the country and provide support to help facilitate these programs. We encourage families, schools and synagogues that participate to send us pictures of their projects from “Make a Difference” Day to serve as models for future participants. Pictures can be sent via e-mail to sharon@areyvut.org or mailed to Areyvut, 147 South Washington, Bergenfield, NJ 07621. Areyvut develops press releases to announce “Make a Difference” Day and to follow up on all the projects. We invite you to send out a joint press release with us about your local project and/or to provide us with a quote accompanied by a picture that we can use in our media outreach.
Registration Individuals do not need to pre-register to be a part of “Make a Difference” Day. However, we encourage you to register so that we know in advance who is participating and are able to develop programming that is specific to the participants’ needs. We ask the schools, synagogues and agencies who participate to provide us with basic information about their project so that we can include the list of projects in the educational materials.
